St. Baldrick’s on Maine Day is UMaine Circle K’s Biggest event of the year and it takes place on Maine Day. UMaine’s St. Baldrick’s Head Shaving Event, which began in 2011, is an annual event where students and community members shave their heads in solidarity with children who have cancer. It is a popular event and around 100 students participate in it every year by raising their heads and even more donate or help volunteer. All the money raised from the event is donated to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest research institution for pediatric cancer other than the U.S. government. As a club, we help run the event from being registrars, to the treasurer, and helping set up the morning of; we work hard to make the event a success! At the 3rd annual event the club was able to raise over $13,000! It was the first event of its kind and everyone in the community partakes in it. We have helped to raise more than $50,000 in the past 4 years!
